We had a different holiday and went for a tour along the Alentejo coast by motorhome.

Motorhome: from Alentejo Coast to Algarve
We did the route in 5 days

We did it, by motorhome, from Alentejo coast to Algarve! It was the first time we traveled by motorhome. The places to visited were already scheduled, but the places to spend the night were decided on that day.

We left Leiria early and took the road to Vila Nova de Milfontes, our first stop. Our route was along beaches, but Alentejo has other beautiful places to visit.

The Alentejo coast has the most beautiful landscapes in Portugal. It has dozens of beaches, from the wildest to the most urban ones.

If you still don’t know these wonderful places, book the caravan through a.van.pt and start exploring!

This was our Motorhome route: from Costa Alentejana to Algarve, 5 spectacular days, with lots of walking, rest, beach, and fun!

Praia do Malhão

The absolute queen of Milfontes beaches is Praia do Malhão, located 10 km north of the town center. It’s a long beach that impresses for its blue waters and rock formations, creating wild and at the same time intimate environments. And there is parking.

Vila Nova de Milfontes

Vila Nova de Milfontes is located on the Alentejo coast (South of Portugal), in the municipality of Odemira, and is part of the Natural Park of Southwest Alentejo and Costa Vicentina.

1st night: Parking in Vila Nova de Milfontes (R. António Mantas)

Cabo Sardão

Between Almograve and Zambujeira do Mar is the westernmost point of the Alentejo coast. Guarded by a lighthouse, sentinel of Cape Sardão, this is a place of absolute reconciliation between land and sea landscape.

It’s impossible to remain indifferent to the imposing cliffs dug down towards a powerful and at the same time serene sea, or facing a horizon of endless plains, covered by underbrush and verdant vegetation.

Zambujeira do Mar

The southernmost part of the  Alentejana coast was blessed by idyllic sands, beaches with crystal clear waters, loose sands, and imposing rock formations.

Praia de Odeceixe

Classified as one of the 7 Wonders – Beaches of Portugal, Odeceixe beach, located in the extreme north of the municipality of Aljezur, has the particularity of containing a river beach, as it is limited to the east and to the north by the Ribeira de Seixe, which borders it, a natural border Alentejo. So it has sea and river baths.

The village of Aljezur is located in the western part of the province of Algarve (South of Portugal). It is 30 km away from the city of Lagos.

2nd night: Praia da Bordeira

Motorhome: from Alentejo Coast to Algarve

Praia da Bordeira

Praia da Bordeira is a whim of nature, shaped by colorful cliffs and extensive dune fields sprinkled with preserved vegetation. Even in the summer months, it will be difficult to find Praia da Bordeira full of visitors.

It’s easy to fall in love with the Costa Vicentina and even more so with Praia do Amado, considered one of the most beautiful beaches on the Portuguese coast. Framed by pink cliffs, this beautiful beach stretches along three valleys and offers a perfect sea.

Sagres is a Portuguese village located on the western tip of the Algarve, Southwest of Portugal.

The tourist attractions of Sagres are divided between its beaches with high vertical cliffs and historic buildings with striking landscapes, such as the Cape São Vicente Lighthouse and Fortaleza de Sagres.

3rd night: SagresIntermarché

Drinking water replenishment costs €2.00/100 liters and there is a parking lot reserved for motorhomes overnight.

Vila do Bispo

With 60% of its area included in the Natural Park of Southwest Alentejo and Costa Vicentina, the municipality of Vila do Bispo is one of the few places in the Algarve region where wild nature, combined with a rich cultural heritage, remaining intact.

Integrated into the village of Burgau, it is an urban beach and marks the western limit of the Natural Park of Southwest Alentejo and Costa Vicentina. The sand extends along a small cove, sheltered from the elements, which serves as a fishing port.

4th night: PorchesIntermarché

It has reserved parking for motorhomes overnight.

Porches is small, intimate, picturesque, and silent streets where white predominates. During the summer, it transforms, vibrates, and attracts crowds that yearn for its idyllic beaches.

Praia da Nossa Senhora da Rocha

The beach, very welcoming, is associated with the fishing port of Nossa Senhora da Rocha, so the sand is shared with boats, fishing gear (mainly ‘alcatruzes’), and fishermen’s gear houses.

The same boats also make, at the request of tourists, visits to the region’s marine caves, where fascinating games of light and color are produced, as well as to isolated beaches only accessible by sea.
