You can spend 5 days in São Miguel for 160 euros
It was the first time I spent my birthday away from my family, but the reason was good: they offered me a trip to the Azores, after a period of confinement in Portugal, and it couldn’t have been better.
I leave you here a small guide of how to travel to São Miguel, an island of the Azores archipelago, located in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean.
São Miguel Island is the perfect destination for relaxing and is absolutely stunning!
Beaches are composed of a blue sea, volcanic rocks, and sands, joining green mountains, lakes of all colors, and craters of inactive volcanoes. Wonderful local gastronomy, free-roaming cows, and friendly and welcoming people. This was some of what I found on my first visit to the Azores.
HOW MUCH DID THE TRIP TO SÃO MIGUEL COST?
We traveled in May and the flight Porto – Ponta Delgada cost about 50€, by Ryanair. There are flights both from Lisbon and Porto. Search for the best option for you.
Let me take this opportunity to give you a suggestion! From 25 to 29 September, the flight from Lisbon, by Ryanair, is 35€. This is your chance to fly to the Azores. Take advantage! Buy it here.
WHEN TO VISIT SÃO MIGUEL?
It is not difficult to find a good time to visit São Miguel. The weather is good all year round, with average temperatures between 15°C and 25°C.
From July to October the weather is warmer and from here until December the months are rainier. But don’t be shy, we have all heard it and it’s true!
In one day, in São Miguel, you can have the 4 seasons of the year. I have seen that one hour it rains and the next hour it is sunny. I recommend you take light clothes, but also a jacket and a raincoat.
WHERE TO STAY IN SÃO MIGUEL?
I stayed in one of the best hotels on the island and I totally recommend it. The reservation was made through booking and we searched for 5-star hotels, after all, it was a gift and it was my birthday. It’s not every day that you travel in these conditions.
Well, the price was very nice and that also helped the choice. It was 235€/ 2 people, 4 nights with a wonderful breakfast.
Hotel Verde Mar & SPA is right in front of the beach, in the town of Ribeira Grande. It has an outdoor pool, a spa with an indoor pool, a hot tub and a sauna, a fitness center and the rooms are beautiful. One of the best hotels I’ve ever stayed at.
In September, prices rise considerably and you will find this same hotel at 474€/4 nights. So, if you want to take advantage of the Ryanair flight at 35€, and want cheaper accommodation, I advise you to stay at Quinta dos Bravos.
Quinta dos Bravos is located between Ponta Delgada and Ribeira Grande and has a large garden with a swimming pool. A room with garden view, breakfast included, costs €250/4 nights.
So, you can spend five days on the island of São Miguel, from 25 to 29 September (with flight, hotel, and breakfast), for just 160€ per person. Is it or is it not a great holiday?
WHAT I VISITED IN 3 DAYS IN SÃO MIGUEL?
We spent 4 nights in São Miguel, but actually only managed to enjoy 3 full days. We arrived in Ponta Delgada at 6 pm and still explored the historical center and had a nice walk by the sea on Avenida Marginal. Then we had dinner at Rei dos Pregos.
